Fashionese Daily Gets a Facelift

by Thomas Arie Setiawan — January 9, 2008

We just finished (well, not 100% yet) a new design for Fashionese Daily. This new design offers a cleaner and more structured contents. Also, it tries to deliver more interactivity. Take a look at the screenshot below.

Design Overview

We received a design screenshot from Fashionese Daily. The screenshot tells what changes should be implemented. We made some adjustments for the design like changing the 'dimension', and figured out whether the requested features can be implemented or not. Anyway, Fashionese Daily uses WordPress.

After that, we created a new WordPress theme. Building the HTML and stylesheet from scratch, working with WordPress queries and database, tweak the plugins, etc. Of course, we created a CSS-designed layout. We tried to keep the document outline used properly.

Solutions

The new front page contains more contents (compared to the previous design). As I mentioned before, the new design is about "interactivity" and "readership". There are some sections under Fashionese Daily: blog, forum, gallery (they call it: "Fitting Room"), and directory. And every section should be connected each other.

Okey, here are some notes on the redesign:

  • Custom fields for entry. In the front page, there is a section displaying recent articles from blog (based on category). Each post will have thumbnail.
  • Custom options. Handling the information displayed in the public site should be easy. So, we created new custom options for the theme. Some areas can be handled directly from theme options, without touching the theme files.
  • Queries and more queries. The main site is made using WordPress, and the information should be delivered in based on some criteria.

There are other things to do for Fashionese Daily. And we're working on it now...
