Using Amazon S3 with CloudFront

Last September, we made an experiment to use Amazon S3 service with CloudFront. The idea was to distribute the contents of my client’s site to reduce the server load. We heard many positive comments about Amazon AWS, and we decided to try it.

We noticed that the space and bandwidth usage are still reasonable. It’s not a super heavy website, but at least we had a chance to try this Amazon S3 service. Here’s a sample statistics:

Amazon Simple Storage Service

  • Storage: 1.286 GB-Mo
  • Data transfer in: 1.347 GB
  • Data transfer out: 1.779 GB
  • PUT, COPY, POST, or LIST requests: 1,640 requests
  • GET and all other requests: 86,020 requests

Amazon CloudFront

  • United States
    • Data transfer out: 5.122 GB
    • GET Requests: 97,205 requests
  • European Union
    • Data transfer out: 1.664 GB
    • GET Requests: 34,427 requests
  • Japan
    • Data transfer out: 0.638 GB
    • GET Requests: 11,286 requests
  • Hong Kong
    • Data transfer out: 4.092 GB
    • GET Requests: 71,503 requests

So, how much we paid for this statistics? We paid $3.12 only. What does $3.12 mean? For the situation we deal with, it’s about website performance.
