Gallery Album using WordPress

Right now, we’re working on a gallery album site. Our client wants to have a photo gallery for her site. There are many great gallery scripts like Gallery Menalto, 4Images, and Coopermine. Every software has its own great features. After having discussion with our client, we decided not to use one of those options. We choose WordPress.

Right now, our client already has WordPress for her blog. And, we’ve been working with together with her for few years. We believe that our client is already familiar with WordPress, so it should not be difficult for her. This work is for our client, not for us. Even we can install those gallery script, it does not mean that it will be the perfect solution. We recommend WordPress because we’re sure that WordPress can handle and do the work.

When working on WordPress for the gallery site, we use some plugins. And, these are two essential plugins we use:

  • Get the Image
Get the Image is a plugin that grabs images for you. It was designed to make the process of things such as adding thumbnails, feature images, and/or other images to your blog much easier, but it’s so much more than that. It is an image-based representation of your WordPress posts.
  • Yet Another Related Posts Plugin
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP) gives you a list of posts and/or pages related to the current entry, introducing the reader to other relevant content on your site.

Other than that, we still use some plugins to maximize the work. But without any other additional plugins, the gallery should work without any problem. Anyway, to include the gallery in post, we use WordPress’ built-in gallery feature and get the advantage of its gallery shotcodes. Other than that, we work with template functions e.g. displaying number of photos in each entries.

The gallery site is almost ready, we’ll post more details about this later. Another new challenge working with WordPress. And, until now (in this project) we feel that we made a right decision by using WordPress. Fun!
